Whitman's song continues...

"I hear America singing, the varied carols I hear ..."Walt Whitman wrote that line wars ago, but it still works thanks to the people we recently celebrated.I like getting beaten with perspective every once in a while.I'd like to think that I have a pretty good idea of what's going on, but there is always the chance that my perceived reality is just that, perceived. It's what I imagine. It's a representation of reality, not actual truth.I didn't get mushy on Veterans Day, but it stayed in my mind well into the following week. I wondered what kind of man I would be if I lived in a different era. Would I be the type who would lie about his age to join the military and save the world from Hitler? If I got over there, would I be one of those subordinate characters who doesn't last through the first scene and isn't listed in the credits of the movie version?See full column at:http://www.capitalcityweekly.com/stories/112014/out_1227830071.shtml
