Where to eat in Anchorage
Hearth Artisan Pizza
Moose’s Tooth gets all the hype (and it is really good) but Hearth has the better pizza. It is certainly not a mistake to go to Moose’s Tooth and people will wonder why you didn’t take their recommendation but Hearth is just better.
F Street Station
A few hours before I was a guest on the Alaska Wild Project podcast, the three hosts (friends of mine) took me to F Street. With everything else available, this was the choice for three locals. That says a lot. The halibut sandwich is the best I have ever had. It is usually busy but the staff is steady and the wait worth it.
49th State Brewing
The thing about breweries is they tend to have overpriced bar food that makes the precipitous fall from the initial impression. GREAT ENVIRONMENT, good beer, decent food. There is often a ridiculous line during summer so I’ve always gone elsewhere and been fine with it. 49th State teeters on worth it. Granted if you’re three beers in by the time you get to the food you probably don’t care and just love the view from the roof or even the window bank inside. It’s worth going to, but only if the wait is an hour and a half. Take an Uber and you’ll save money and probably be eating before you would had you waited.
Spenard Roadhouse
Spenard’s works in the opposite direction. Great food, good ambiance. Nothern Lights Blvd is nothing to look at but it is across from two staples in Anchorage, Barney’s Sports Chalet and AlpineFit. Put your name in, go shop then come back and buy a legit great burger. This place also excels at breakfast. I’ve been there four times and it never disappoints.
