New Bern, N.C. food tour

20121012-201138.jpgSo after Wal-mart a logical next stop was downtown for some more culture. We ate at Morgan's Tavern and Grill in the heart of New Bern. The building is authentic old, not new and sterile trying to be old and historic. The original brick from when it was a garage in 1911 makes for a great dining environment. Since it became a restaurant in 2006 it's been winning Readers Choice and Sun Journal awards from Best Bar and Best Decor to Best Wait Staff and Least Likely to get Tired of. The strip steak was perfectly cooked but after serious appetizing on their famous crescent rolls and crab dip the last bites of meat and garlic potatoes were slow - but still outstanding. I asked two employees why the place is named Morgan's. Both said it is after a dog. Guess I'll have to eat there again to find out more...darn.www.morganstavernnewbern.com
