What I missed

I've passed this waterfall thousands of times since I was five. Today I took my first picture of it. During summer it's easy to appreciate the bounty of island life in Southeast Alaska. Salmon, trout, halibut, berries, there is so much to pick, hook, net, kill, grill and digest. Now the fish are rotting zombies bumping their faces into rocks to speed the process. I've seen a few bushes with huckleberries, but the bounty of summer is gone. The green has been replaced with yellows and browns of the coming winter. But there's still plenty to notice when the kings aren't stacked up. I bet the reason so many people have become malcontents is they've hardened. Even rugged people need to notice a little of nature's poetry once in a while.
