Guns or gut?
The Joe Rogan Experience was pretty terrifying this morning. He had author Chris Kresser on talking about the health perils of our country. He cited a CDC report that stated more than 100 million U.S. adults are now living with diabetes or prediabetes. Kresser said that with the cost of treating diabetes and other ailments caused by poor eating, lack of exercise, etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. you know, things we have control over, the entire Federal Budget will be taken up just funding Medicare and Medicaid by 2040 (21:40 of podcast). Of course it's difficult to accurately predict the future based on models, but it doesn't seem all that ridiculous considering easily observable trends. On a side note, it seems like there are four types of people in health:1. Those who care about their health, try multiple methodologies and settle with what works best for them.2. Those who care about being right in nutrition and exercise and pick fights with those who disagree.3. Those who care but do little or nothing about it.4. Those who don't care. While the gun debate rages and more Hollywood stars flood our Facebook feed, we'll just continue to poison ourselves from a seated position. Maybe that's because it's easy to make an enemy out of a weapon, but not our freedom to eat, sit and get sick. Plastic forks from fast food joints are instruments of mass destruction, but it feels weird to engage in a fight with them. Go too far with trying to motivate people to eat better and exercise, and it's Fat Shaming. What can we do? Maybe it's not a "we" it's just an "I". What will I do?
