Hula's Escalon, CA - Food review

Hula's2261 Jackson Avenue (Highway 120)Escalon, CAFishermen need, but don't always get, good food. After a day of chasing trout, few things sound better than a bacon cheese burger, fries and a milkshake. Of course, most days that sounds pretty good...Anyway, after a half dozen or so trips up Highway 120 to fish the Stanislaus River, we started stopping at Hula's in Escalon for a post-fishing burger. The burgers were so good, I had to try one before a fishing trip to make sure the I wasn't deceived by sheer appetite. The burger was just as good as it was for me as a ravenous fisherman. All aspects of the burger are solid, starting with the beef and bun. If those are amiss, the whole thing fails. Hula's does it right, with thick burgers and a bread that don't go to mush under the weight of the rest of the ingredients. The lettuce, onions and tomatoes are crisp and fresh. The dressing mixes with the juice from the beef and runs down the outside of your hand to your wrist like a good burger should. For a side, you can't go wrong with the onion rings, fries or chili. However, the coup de grace is the free ice cream swirl in a small cup to finish you off with some sweetness. The outdoor patio is perfect for cool evenings when the breeze picks up a bit. I think I'll go tomorrow.
